Life with Braces
Helpful tips for maintaining braces and achieving a perfect smile.
Adjusting to Life with Braces
To make this transition smoother, keeping up with your brushing and flossing is key to preventing bacteria buildup. Also, remember to use the wax we provide to ease any irritation and help you feel more comfortable as you adjust.
Habits to Avoid with Braces
- Chewing on objects such as pens and ice cubes
- Nail biting
- Smoking
How to Brush with Braces
- Brush thoroughly after every meal or snack. If you can’t brush immediately, rinse your mouth with water to remove food particles.
- Braces can wear out a toothbrush quickly, so be sure to replace it as soon as you notice signs of wear.
- Be sure to brush around every part of your braces and all surfaces of your teeth, paying special attention to areas where plaque may accumulate.
- A clean and shiny set of braces means you’re doing well! If you can see the edges of the brackets clearly, you’re on track. If the metal looks dull or fuzzy, it’s time to step up your brushing game.
How to Floss with Braces
Flossing is a crucial part of your oral hygiene routine, especially with braces. Follow these tips to make flossing easier and more effective:
- Floss every night before bed to remove food particles and plaque.
- Use a floss threader – this handy tool helps you easily guide the floss underneath the wires, making it easier to clean between your teeth.
By making flossing a daily habit, you’ll keep your braces—and your smile—in top shape!
